Story
I'm taking on RideLondon 100 in support of the London Cycling Campaign. They're working to make cycling in London safer and more enjoyable for all. This means bringing more high-quality space for cycling to every borough, tackling the most dangerous junctions in London and enabling more people to build confidence and start riding comfortably.
Despite a non-existent training regime and laughable levels of fitness, I managed to complete RideLondon last year. Not much has improved in the last twelve months - you can still pay to see me suffer.
However, seeing the huge diversity of participants in 2022 in terms of age, gender, ethnicity and even style of bike was a wake-up call as to what cycling in London could be. Unless tangible improvements are made to make cycling in the capital less dangerous and more welcoming, then what is typically London's quickest and greenest mode of transport will remain open only to those who have the confidence and experience to navigate the streets.
