Story
My Dad.
From
my earliest memories I can still recall my dad being on the side line calling my name, telling me to look for space, run it off or bringing the half time oranges. In my athletics I can remember him standing there with an umbrella in the snow, sleet, and rain. regardless of the weather he was there. Cheering my name, carrying my kit and being the best dad, I could ask for.
We shared many little get aways in Premier Inns at events and competitions up and down the country, having son and dad moments and enjoying our love for sport together.
As an accomplished runner and football player in his day for the Navy, my dad has been a figure for many people in their sporting life, giving a shoulder to lean on, an ear to bend or for advice.
Earlier this year, my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, which has impacted us as a family a lot. It has also resonated with many other people who know my dad and share similar memories of him around the running track or in the sports hall running the circuit training sessions for football.
This is a disease that does not discriminate and Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias now account for more than 12% of all deaths. Alzheimer's Research is the UK's Leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention treatment and cure. Their mission is to bring about the first life changing dementia treatment by 2025 and fund projects that will have the biggest impact, helping to transform the lives of people living with dementia. I will be raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research for the London Marathon in 2023. Please help and
support me reaching my target and SMASHING it!
