My eldest daughter Evie is a normal happy, healthy 15 year old, but in the winter of 2008 she became ill. We noticed she had a rash and was feeling sick. We took her to the local NHS walk-in centre in Wavertree. Not really thinking too much of it, we presumed it was measles or something similar. However, after a thorough check-up by the vigilant NHS staff, they sent us straight up to Alder Hey. The doctors immediately began treating her for Meningococcal Septicaemia (Meningitis). She remained seriously ill for four days but, thankfully, made a full recovery and was discharged just in time for Christmas. This was the best present we ever had. If it wasn't for those expert NHS staff, I'm not sure she would have made it.
