In Moldova, disabled children are suffering, children like Irina. Before she came to the Phoenix Centre, she spent most of her time in a wheelchair, in a tiny room with poor conditions and no contact with the outside world.
It's not that her family didn't care, it's because they had no other choice. This resulted in her motor skills to use her hands and feet being completely atrophied.
Now, she is always happy and keen to come to the Centre, she is pleased to breathe fresh air and be warmed by the sun.
She likes to work on her hand to eye coordination and even has friends she talks to outside of the Centre by phone.
Without us, she would still be confined to that tiny room, living an isolated life of misery. The Phoenix Centre gave her a chance at life, isn't that what all children deserve? What do you think?
Moldova is the poorest country in Europe, which has resulted in disabled children of the country practically being invisible.
