Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This page has been set up in memory of Claire Wilson and Amelia Wilson-Smith, who were sadly taken away from this world in August 2022. At the time Claire was 32 weeks pregnant with our daughter Amelia, who was also sadly taken from us..

Claire had been diagnosed with epilepsy when she was a teenager and it was suddenly apart of her day to day life. For those that don’t know much about epilepsy, it is a neurological condition that can effect anyone at anytime in life. Around 600,000 people in the UK are currently diagnosed with the condition and that averages out at 1 in every 100 people. I’ll be posting a link at the end which details more about epilepsy and what you should do if you are ever faced with a similar situation.

Claire was 28 when she was taken and our daughter was 32 weeks, she had a few more weeks left to grow before she would have made her entry into this world. Claire had a heart of gold, she was an amazing mum to her 10 year old boy, Oscar and to Amelia. She would undoubtedly do anything for anyone if she believed she could help. She had just moved in with me, to begin our new chapter in life, but sadly it wasn’t to be.

The purpose of this message is to raise awareness about epilepsy. Not a lot of people realise what it is, not a lot of people know how to deal with epilepsy or with someone who is actively in a seizure and not a lot of people realise that it is in fact fatal, I was guilty of not realising it was fatal. Each year 1,000 people sadly pass away with causes related to epilepsy. Half of them are from sudden unexpected deaths relating to epilepsy and the other half and in Claire’s case, when someone dies who has epilepsy, but no obvious cause of death can be found.

I’d like to provide you all with a link to a charity organisation called epilepsy action. Their website explains what epilepsy is, facts about the condition and the different types of conditions there are. There is also a link that I’ll provide which is what you should do if you are ever faced with someone who is having an epileptic episode.

Lastly, I have set up a just giving page in memory of Claire and Amelia. The money that is raised will be given to epilepsy action. Any donations are greatly appreciated, but the main aim of this post is to raise awareness surrounding epilepsy and how you can potentially save someone’s life.
