After learning some of the theory around International Development I am so excited to get the opportunity to see it in practice and take part. I am volunteering with Raleigh International as part of the International Citizen Service (ICS). I will be leaving for Tanzania at the end of September for 10 weeks.

ICS is 90%  funded by the UK Department for International Development and 10% by the volunteers (me!) - so the money I raise will not go on my personal costs, but straight back into the project ensuring that other people get the same opportunity to support the global community and become active global citizens.

When I go to Tanzania I will hopefully get the opportunity to work on the WASH project (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) which is one of my passions in development. I really believe that when there is a sustainable and safe water supply and sanitation programme then there are so many knock-on benefits, for example in; education, health and improved life expectancy. I am very excited to have this opportunity to volunteer for a programme I really believe in!
