Story
Have you ever considered the question 'would you rather be born blind or gradually go blind as you get a bit older?'?
Unfortunately for some sufferers of Retinitis Pigmentosa the latter is a reality which can be really limiting. In short, RP is a rare genetic disease which affects approximately 1 in 4000 people's eyesight worldwide. Whilst the progression of the disease affects people differently, typically it leads to 'tunnel vision' and night blindness. I put tunnel vision in inverted commas because it is the most crude, understated description of actually how much peripheral vision some people with RP end up losing
My brother has lived and dealt with RP his whole life and he is the reason I have decided to run the London Marathon to raise money for RP Fighting Blindness who are trying to better understand the science behind RP through high-quality medical research.
My target is £2000 although please do not let that make you think that I will not be grateful for even the smallest donation. It is all for a cause which is really close to my family's hearts.
