Story
I'm running this race in honour of my late grandmother in-law Ulla Gray.
In 2021, the family found out my grandmother in-law had cancer for the second time in her life, a fear she lived with since her first cancer diagnosis many years before. Ulla was the epitome of good health in her later years, walking at least 5k a day all throughout the Covid Pandemic to ensure she stayed in good health.
When she received her diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, for which they couldn't identify the source, it felt like a cruel joke to play on such a lively, active, lover-of-life. Our family was devastated and Ulla was devastated. Less than a year after her diagnosis, Ulla lost her fight with cancer.
Cancer is such a nasty, cruel disease and I am running this in the hopes that this new world class research centre will find a cure to prevent any more families losing the ones they love to soon.
I know that if Ulla was here today she would not only be sponsoring me in this run, but sharing it with all her friends. I know times are tough, so anything you can give will be so greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance for your support.
Together, may we find a cure to this devastating disease.
More about what you are supporting:
This year I'll be putting on my training shoes and taking part in the Purple Wave, to support Manchester's cancer research. We all know someone whose life has been changed by cancer. That's why researchers in Manchester are working hard to improve how cancer is treated and help more patients with cancer get back to normal life. A brand new cancer centre will be opening soon. Designed to speed up research progress, it'll be a world-class centre bringing new hope to people with cancer. Amazing research will take place inside the new building, and by donating to my page today, you can be part of that. Cancer will affect one in two of us but with our help, Manchester can create a happier, healthier future for all. Please join me in supporting Manchester's cancer research by sponsoring me today!
