Story
How can we be in 2022 and not have a treatment or cure for a disease that is so prevalent? Someone is diagnosed with dementia every 3 minutes, changing their lives and their families lives for ever.
Dementia is a life debilitating disease and a terminal condition. Yet it is so drastically underfunded that, as a society, we have struggled to find a breakthrough treatment.
Like so many others, I have been personally touched by this dreadful disease. My Dear Nana was diagnosed in her mid 60’s, now 72 her life is completely different. As a family, we are one of the lucky ones. Nana might regularly go missing, refuse to change out of her pyjamas bottoms and claim she has not been fed after a full Christmas dinner but most often she does so with a smile on her face.
Until the day we find a cure, we need to ensure those affected by dementia are supported, accepted and have an opportunity to live their life to the fullest as the disease gradually takes over. Alzheimer’s Society is that vital support, and that is why I have chosen to run 26.2 miles and raise as much money as possible to support their cause.
