Story
I'm not a runner, my brother said that I couldn't do it and I basically look like a speed skater in trainers. So why on earth am I doing this?
10 years ago my family cared for my mother who had a terminal brain tumour. When you go through these things, you inevitably end up researching the illness in the vain hope of finding out something the doctors have missed. It was during that journey that I discovered how little we know about illnesses that impact the human brain. Dementia stood out for me as one of these illnesses that is vastly under funded, but yet impacts a huge number of people (47m worldwide). People who suffer in silence, often in isolation and out of the gaze of society. This must change.
For the last couple of years I have been building a company, http://www.kareinn.com, created to try to help find answers to Dementia through the power of data. We work with Care Homes around the country who look after people living with Dementia, often where their condition is at an advanced stage and care is at its most acute. Our software enables carers to spend more time with them, whilst giving them insights to help improve their quality of life. We were setup to work with charities like Alzheimers Research, so that we can bring their findings to the front line of care. Findings only made possible by funding research.
Alzheimers Research play a key role in the fight to find answers. By 2040 more people will die from Dementia than all cancers combined. However the funding for Dementia is 6.4 times less. We need to do more to change these stats and help find answers.
I know I have asked for sponsorship before and I know people get inundated with requests for sponsorship, so I would be so grateful if you were able to sponsor me. Thank you thank you thank you.
