Thanks for taking the time to visit Alex & James’ 2019 Half Marathon JustGiving page.
11th July 2018 Alex went into the Royal Berks Hospital for a check-up of her relatively easy pregnancy, to then unexpectedly give birth 6 days later to our beautiful baby, Jonas.
He was born just shy of 32 weeks at 2 lb 11 oz, and so was promptly taken up to the amazing Buscot Ward where he was nurtured for 4 weeks before coming home. Alex was discharged from hospital 5 days post-surgery which meant we had to travel daily from home to see Jonas for the subsequent 3 weeks. All the staff at Buscot made us feel welcome no matter what time of day or how busy they were. They allowed us to care for Jonas in our own way and were never made to feel like we were asking the wrong questions (being a first-time parent meant we had many questions!!).
Watching the Buscot staff care for my and other babies on the ward gave us every faith in their abilities and love of the job. Luckily Jonas didn't need much medical intervention; he just needed to grow, but we are very grateful for all the love and attention he received during his stay as ours could've been a completely different story.
We are running this Half Marathon 8 months after having Jonas to raise money for Buscot so they can help families like ours.
