Story

So, heres the deal.

I plan on running the Bristol 10k, thats on the 9th May, and following that, running the Bristol Half Marathon in September 2010. Thats 31Km altogether, and thats just on the race days, if we add all the training in its looking like, what, well over 40!

And, as a consequence of me hoping to get truly fit, and back into the running lark, I thought I would generate some money and interest for a good cause, so I got in touch with a charity in the South-West, pact, Prison advice and care trust to you and me. I have asked the good people at pact to donate all the money I raise to a specific cause, the Play in Prisons Project in Devon, more information about this can be found at www.prisonadvice.org.uk/playinprisons

As I'm sure many of you know, its a project and charity that would have been pretty close to my heart a few years ago, as it is for the families and children of prisoners. Yep, they are the people, regardless of whether their loved ones were imprisoned rightly or wrongly, who also serve a sentence as long as their family member in prison. Visits, court hearings, appeals, phone calls, life in general gets pretty rubbish when you serve that sentence on the outside, and charities and projects such as this aim to help, advise and support the forgotten ones on the outside.

Now, if there had been a charity like that which my mum, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, friends and I could have turned to a few years ago, life might have been made a little easier for all of us. The opportunity to support a good cause for all those still in this terrible situation is too good to miss now.

Put your prejudices to one side. I'm not trying to free guilty prisoners. Just free their families from the same sentence on the outside as their loved ones on the inside.
