We provide family-based care for children to ensure every child has a loving family

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with 14 other friends and colleagues from CVC and have chosen to support Hope and Homes for Children (http://www.hopeandhomes.org/). Hope and Homes for Children’s mission is to give hope to the poorest children in the world – those who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable – by enabling them to grow up within the love of a family and the security of a home, so they can fulfil their potential. In Central and Eastern Europe, they close orphanages and move children into family-based care whilst developing the services needed to help prevent child abandonment. In Africa, they provide a vital lifeline for families at risk of breakdown due to the pressures of poverty, disease or conflict. Above all else, Hope and Homes for Children believe that every child should live within a loving family environment.

As someone who has recently become a father, i am especially touched by this charity's mission and want to continue supporting it. Every penny raised here will go to Hope and Homes for Children and CVC is matching an additional 50% of the amount raised (the cost of the expedition has been entirely funded by CVC and the participants).

Some details on the climb... between June 27th and July 6th the expedition team will climb along the Machame route (6 days, 60km) which, whilst steep and one of the more challenging routes, does allow for additional acclimatisation time on the mountain. No one is under any illusion with the difficulties of the challenge. None of the team has been to this altitude (5,896m), which is higher than Everest Base Camp. Few have camped since their teenage years spending 3 nights above 3,800m plus a summit day push of 1,366m whilst hiking in temperatures varying from +35c to -20c.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Please help me in supporting Hope and Homes for Children.

thank you

Alex

Orphanages do not protect children. They harm them. We are working towards a day when every child can grow up in a loving family. There are millions of children across the world confined to loveless orphanages. Over 80% of them are not orphans. It doesn’t have to be this way.
