Story
The 2011 challenge will take place on the 12th November and will present a significant challenge, i.e. to walk the Yorkshires Three Peaks with limited daylight and the on-set of winter conditions. It will require good navigations skills, experience and equipment.
Traditionally, volunteer rescue teams were called out to provide specific expertise in search and rescue of missing and injured people (and animals) in remote and often inhospitable areas, inaccessible to all land based vehicles. Increasingly however, they are being called to assist in urban areas where you would normally expect the 3 primary emergency services to attend. The main difference being that whereas the 3 emergency services are primarily government funded, mountain and cave rescue teams are funded entirely by charitable donations.
Hopefully, you'll never need them but, without your donations, volunteer rescue teams are facing tough times. So, in this "Big Society" of ours, please sponsor me to raise as much money as I can such that whenever anyone does need them, they can attend. Last year, on one of the hotest days of the year, I completed the walk in 10 hours flat. In November, I'm hoping for a time under 9 and a half hours.
