Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving Page! I’m fundraising to support the amazing work that Action for Children do. It would be great if you could donate and share my Page so I can raise as much as possible to help them work in local communitites across the UK to protect & support the young & vulnerable. Thank you.
I'm sleeping out on the 2nd October, whatever the weather, to help tackle the root causes of youth homelessness. Every year, 80,000 young people find themselves without a place to stay. I’m giving up my bed for one night to make a positive difference to these young people’s lives. Action for Children supports 300,000 children, young people, their families and carers, and last year Byte Night raised over £1.1 million to support this vital work.
A donation of just £5 could pay for a hot meal for a homeless young person. £10 can buy a set of pots and pans to help a formerly homeless young person start to build their own home. By donating £18, you could pay for a warm shower and hygiene kit to help a young person prepare for interviews.
Deprivation, child neglect and youth homelessness remain a massive problem around the UK. We often view the possibility of homelessness as distant and unlikely. But every year around 80,00 young people in the UK experience homelessness.
In a family under pressure, relationships can become fractured and breakdown. Arguments can escalate and those affected can feel they have no choice but to leave home. If that person is below the age of 21, then chances are they will have few places to turn.
If your life is a doorway, a backpack and the sodden, dirty clothes you left home in, it can be easy to make misguided choices about your future. The dreams and ambitions forged in childhood quickly fade and are replaced by the crushing expectation and harsh reality of adulthood.
On 2 October I will join thousands of people across the UK and sleep out, so vulnerable young people don’t have to. The money raised by Byte Night, the UK’s largest sleep-out enables Action for Children to support services around the country. These services provide young people with the space, security and stability they need to get their lives back on track and are crucial to preventing youth homelessness and them becoming lost in the system
