Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
'Dementia is used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, stroke and many other rarer conditions. Symptoms of dementia include loss of memory, confusion, and problems with speech and understanding'.
There are currently 750,000 people with dementia in the UK.
There are over 16,000 younger people with dementia in the UK.
There will be over a million people with dementia by 2025.
60,000 deaths a year are directly attributable to dementia.
On Sunday 16th May 2010 I am running the Great Manchester Run, a 10K route through Manchester City Centre in support of the Alzheimer's Society. 'Leading the fight against dementia' the Alzheimer's Society provide training for health and care professionals to improve the service given to those with dementia, and provide over 2,000 services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, whilst researching and campaigning for those affected.
Their local services include day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as helplines and support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring. From Alzheimer's Café's and innovative 'singing for the brain' sessions to memory-book projects and group outings, their services provide both practical support and an essential point of contact.
Your sponsorship will help the Alzheimer's Society continue to help others. If you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation meaning more money is raised, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity!!
I would be very grateful for any donation you are able to give.
Cheers!! Alex.
