Story
Two years ago, whilst chatting to Kev and preparing for cycling to work I found I couldn't speak or stand up (I wanted to but nothing worked!). - This resulted in a Blues and Twos ride into Baths RUH (which Kev enjoyed and I did not !). I recovered in a few hours to be told I had suffered a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA or mini stroke).
As a mere youngster it was a bit of a shock, even more so to spend a week in a ward with others that had suffered full strokes. I was lucky, and had no lasting effects but the loss of mobility and speech whilst trying to move and speak was very scary!!
This all kicked off a case of "let's get on and do all those things I'd like to do" and Lands End to John O'Groats was one of them (Kev and I were talking about doing it before the incident). So after I had an operation to close a hole in the last year (diagnosed as the reason a little clot got to the brain) and got the all clear from Dr Turner at the BRI, I'm all set to go.
The fundraising event is a bike ride with Kevin Moon from Land's end to John O'groats over 10 days. I hoped Kevin was going to do a sponsored silence but you can't have everything! (see Kevins page)
I would like to donate sponsorship to the Stroke Association who offer support to those who have suffered a stroke and their families (having understood that a stroke can happen to anyone at any age).
Kev Moon is supporting MS Therapy Centre at Nailsea and you can Sponser him at: http://www.justgiving.com/kevinmoon
During and after the ride you can check out our trials and tribulations at : http://www.geocities.com/end2end_2008 from August 29th onwards
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: TheStroke association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
