Alex's Insane Fundraising Challenge!

Alex's Big Fundraising Challenge · 3 July 2014
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
To help raise some much needed funds for Cash For Kids, I'm running a yearlong fundraising campaign to raise £5,000! In that time, I will take part in at least 6 Hill/Fell Running events – varying in length from 10km to 30km!. All involve significant climbing – the longer ones have about 1500m of hands on knees - or hands and knees - climbing (equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis and then some). Over the course of the events I will cover well over 100km and climb 8000m which is the equivalent of climbing Everest from sea level. And then there's the descending!
I will have to carry a 4.5kg pack with waterproof full body covering including hat and gloves plus map, compass, whistle and any drinks/food as there are barely even paths in places, let alone water stations! If there is a burn, I have to cross it. if there is a bog, I have to go through it. As most of the events are in the Scottish Highlands, there will be wind and rain – probably snow on some of the winter races.
My next event is the Run Of The Mill Hill Race on Sunday 26th October in Alva. It is 15k with 850m of climbing up Ben Cleuch in the Ochil Hills north of Stirling in Scotland. Weather isn't looking great for it! I'm hoping to complete it in under 2hrs 30 mins.
Just 6 days later i will be running the Dumyat Dash - the craggy looking hill you see from Stirling Castle. It's 9k with 550m of climbing.
My first event was on Wednesday 9th July - the Maddy Moss Mash in the Ochil Hills above Tillicoultry in Central Scotland. It was 10k with 750m of climbing. Here's the event description:
Possibly the best, and generally the longest time-wise, of the mid-week Bog and Burn races. The race starts up a near vertical grass slope adorned with gorse bushes, before breaking onto a runnable path and a short rocky descent to a burn crossing. The ascent up the nose of The Law is largely hands on knees, with only short sections of shuffle running. The route then opens out across the grassy tops of Ben Cleuch and Andrew Gannel Hill, before dropping into a narrow trod high above Gannel Burn where overtaking is virtually impossible. The final section of downhill is frighteningly fast and tricky before the near vertical plummet to the finish.
These will be punishing events so please give generously to this spectacularly good charity.
I will keep everyone up to date with further events via this page and facebook. If you want the nitty gritty details of the events and my training, follow me on Strava.
To top up the sponsorship, I will also sell or auction anything I can blag so please get in touch with me if you think you might be able to help. Tickets and Experiences would be hugely appreciated!
