Story
Thank you for visiting my page first and foremost.
I can’t believe I’m saying this (imagine if I was saying this last year at almost 20 stone) I will be running my first ever great North Run in September 2020 in support of Alzheimers Research Uk, remembering my late grandad, Jim Smith.
Dementia affects more than half of the population in the UK in one way or another generally through parents or Grandparents (and husbands and wives). 23% of the population think that it’s an inevitable part of getting older but is this really true?! Just half (51%) of the public recognise that dementia can cause death, despite Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias now being the leading cause of death in the UK, accounting for more than 12% of all deaths. There is a long way to go in understanding the diseases that cause Dementia and Alzheimer’s research UK are a big part of that, please help them.
In June 2016 me, and my family said our final goodbyes to my Grandad Jim. It came after a long battle with Dementia. I witnessed the disease take a firm hold of someone we loved so dearly. Over the years I have gained a better understanding of the disease and realise the need for further research.
What better way to support a charity, remembering my Granddad Jim!
This is going to be a very emotional thing for me to do so any support you can give me is massively welcomed no matter how big or how small, not only by myself but from my entire family and the Alzheimer’s Research UK team!
