Fundraising for Sporting Memories
Really happy to be taking part in the Great North Run to raise funds for Sporting Memories.
It’s a great charity which helps older people struggling with dementia, depression or loneliness by using the power of remembering and talking about sport.
It’s a concept I absolutely love and a charity that makes a massive difference to older people who’ve been alone more than ever over the last 18 months.
I’m raising money so Sporting Memories can support older people to join in activities around their love of sport, meet and talk to others and ensure they have access to the support they need.
I’m a big sport fan and really love how powerful it can be in bringing people together. After the Euro 2020 final and the ugly aftermath, I think we all need reminding just how great sport can be for people’s mental health.
About Sporting Memories
We help tackle dementia, depression, and loneliness through the power of sport by delivering reminiscence, social and inclusive physical activities that improve the mental and physical well-being of older people (50+). We do this through tapping into people's passion, knowledge and love of sport and supporting local people to run inclusive and Sporting Memories Clubs with a wide range of activities designed to engage all older people regardless of physical or cognitive conditions. Since Covid-19, we have seen older people increasingly become lonelier, depressed, more anxious and worrying about themselves and loved ones. Money you fundraise for will go directly towards supporting these older people to join in activities around their love of sport, meeting their peers virtually or chatting on the phone and ensure that everyone has access to the support they need.
