Hi, my name is Steve and I have been lucky enough to be invited to join Michelle (the group leader and Lead Midwife for Bereavement services in Barnsley) and the rest of the Barnsley Hospital Charity Team in doing a Sky Dive to raise money to support families suffering from a loss from 20 weeks pregnant.  This includes termination due to fetal abnormality, late miscarriage, intrauterine fetal death or a neonatal death.

This is a cause very close to my heart having lost our daughter Sophia Rose just 2 days before she was due to be born in December 2016. Her twin brother Samuel was born a heathy 4lb10oz and is doing well and is a constant reminder to us of his twin sister.

Each team member has a target of raising £500, which will help other families going through the unimagainable pain we went through.  I am doing this skydive in memory of Sophia Rose.

Ways in which the team will use the money is to help families to remember the baby they lost by creating memory boxes for siblings. These beautiful boxes help families talk to the sibling(s) of the baby that has been lost, help explain what has happened but also provide ways to remember them including books to read together.

The charities have also provided much needed equipment and soft furnishings to the Rainbow Room and the hospital memorial garden. The Rainbow room has flourished with their involvement and generosity.

They also facilitate a memorial service in October, which is during ‘Baby Loss awareness week’. This provides a reading and hearts for families to write their messages which are hung on the tree in the hospital chapel all year round.
