Francesca Caccini's "Alcina" · 18 July 2020
On 26 July 2020, the Early Music Ensembles of Aberdeen University will perform Francesca Caccini's La liberazione di Ruggiero dall' isola di Alcina (1625), which is the oldest surviving opera by a female composer. It tells the story of the rescue of the knight Ruggiero by the princess Bradamante, from the enchanted island of the sorceress Alcina. Our production provides world-class coaching on period instruments and historical singing to music students, and involves horses and riders from Aberdeenshire in a spectacular horse ballet!
We are being partially funded by Aberdeen University's Student Experience Fund, and are raising money in order to make the production as spectacular as possible!
