Story
In memory of our great friend Corey who tragically passed last year from prostate cancer, at a ridiculously young age of 45. His close buddies have decided to try and raise money to help to support life saving research by running the Cardiff Half marathon.
At Corey’s 40 year doctors check-up he was given a terminal diagnosis. The cancer had already spread before he got a chance to take a swing, but this didn’t stop him fighting. A “grab life by the horns” guy, he didn’t let the cancer or his treatments stop him from trying to live his best life and making some beautiful memories along the way.
Before his diagnosis Corey's symptoms were very slight - maybe needing to go to the toilet a little more or a slightly achy pelvis. Nothing that you couldn’t just put down to driving too much or getting a bit older. So, we are just not wanting to raise money, we also want to raise awareness. Because this isn’t a disease that just affects men, it leaves a wake of devastation - so we are running for his wife, Rebecca and their brave and fearless daughter Vivienne too. We will be running for all of the memories we shared and to just feel like we are making a small difference.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. The money we raise will help fund lifesaving research into better tests and treatments to help men live long and live well.
As well as running this half marathon in memory of our good friend Corey we’ll also be doing it for Jon’s father-in-law, Stephen (Badger). A neighbour and good friend of Corey he lost his own battle with cancer in November 2022.
Much missed and always in our thoughts we will look to do them all proud.
