Being part of a research lab partly funded by Bloodwise made me realize the great contribution of this charity to help us cure blood cancer quicker and more effectively. During my PhD at the Molecular Hematology Unit in Oxford I had to face, unfortunately, the news that some of the patients we were studying in the lab didn't respond to treatment. Also, sadly, doctors and scientists didn't have any better treatment to give them and some of them died of leukemia, which remains an incurable disease in some cases. Bloodwise helps research labs like ours to understand why some of these treatments don't work and how we can design new and better treatments for patients with leukemia.
