Story
What a great experience and great feat. Amazing to get out there and be totally in the Game. It's been a long time since I've competed in a physical competition and loved that buzz before the start.
I didn't get to officially finish due to severe cramp in the swim causing me to have to hold onto buoys and rafts to stretch and massage the muscles. This caused me to exceed the cut off time of 1 hour and ten minutes. So technically a DNF (no longer in timed competition)
What a fantastic learning experience and reminder to listen to the body and treat the body with the importance it deserves.
I would like to thank everyone for their support. You have all been fantastic and spurred me on to do this event. And in true fighting spirit, I will be seeking vengeance on this event before the year is out. I first have a Half Marathon to tackle in October. Stay tuned :-)
I’ll be swapping the gloves and pads to take part in Ironman 70.3 (Triathlon) on Sunday 12th April 2015 thanks to good friend, motivator and inspiration, Yassen Hassan (AKA Eyez). Yassen ran the 2014 London Marathon challenging his obesity. His strength and resolve has inspired me to challenge myself for a good cause.
This event consists of a 1.2 mile swim in a lake, 56 mile bike ride and 13.2 mile (half marathon) run. I have 8 hours and 30 minutes to complete this! Training is going well. I recommend this if ever you want to get into shape in record time. I think I'll be able to fit comfortably in the triathlon suit just before the event lol.
I have decided to do this challenge in aid of NSPCC who do a great service for children, young people, parents and families. Click here to see their services. There are so many other charities that are equally worthy but as a teacher I am committed to educating and what better way than to start with the young. Remove all their barriers ad they are capable of anything. NSPCC are committed to removing those barriers
Thanks for taking the time to visit! Every penny counts :-)
