Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My reasons for running the London Marathon for Diabetes UK are very personal. After a spell of being unwell and a stay in hospital aged 30, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This was a condition I knew very little about, but that my grandfather had also suffered with. Unfortunately I never got to meet my grandfather as he died many years before I was born, as an indirect result of his diabetes.
I am sure that being diagnosed in 2015 was a very different experience and life-impact to what my grandfather would have experienced all those years ago. This is due to the ongoing research and development around the condition. The developments I have seen in monitoring and treatment of Type 1 Diabetes over the past 8 years, since my diagnosis, have been substantial.
Diabetes UK continue to support people with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes and invest millions of pounds into research to try to improve treatment and find a cure. Running the London Marathon for Diabetes UK is my way of giving back, and continuing to support the research and incredible work they do. I also want to prove that being diabetic should not stop you from doing anything!
Any donations you are able to make towards this fundraising would be very much appreciated.
