Brighton Marathon 2021
Campaign by Ronald McDonald House Charities (RCN England and Wales (802047), Scotland (SC040717))
#TeamRMHC are running the Brighton Marathon to help even more families stay near their sick child in a hospital far from home.

Story

After months of what has felt like a never ending pattern of run-after-run-after-run, grueling interval runs, long runs in the rain and long runs in the sweltering heat, the time is now approaching to put all that preparation and training to work....Brighton Marathon 2021 awaits on 12th September!
But you may be asking yourself why am I putting myself through the agony's of 26.2miles?....
Well, it is because a good friend of mine told me a story about a family he was visiting to deliver a parcel of gifts, as their son was undergoing life-saving treatment in a London Hospital. Keep in mind, London was a long way from the families home in the North of England, however such was the magnitude of the child’s illness they needed to be close to where he would be located. Unfortunately, the family were unable to face the spiraling cost of accommodation in London in order to be close to their son so a difficult decision had to be made…….That was until Ronald McDonald House stepped in to provide accommodation to support that family during this time. This support enabled the unity of the family to remain a constant presence, providing a solid foundation to support the recovery of their poorly child.
I appreciate that a basket of goodies doesn't compensate for the pain caused by such illness' however, providing the ability for a family unit to stay together through difficult moments like this certainly goes a long way to enable that child to feel the love and support of their parents and siblings, when they need it most.
Needless to say, the hard work required to prepare and complete this marathon, is nothing when compared to what Ronald McDonald House do for families across the UK.
The more I learned about Ronald Mc Donald House the more I was moved by the impact they have on families worldwide whose children have to be treated in a hospital many miles from where they live.
Being away from your home is never ideal, especially when your are not well. For children this is made increasingly difficult. The charity provides free 'home away from home' accommodation at specialist children's hospitals across the UK, enabling families to stay close to their child and maintain a degree of normal family life.
Like any charity Ronald McDonald House relies on the generosity to donors to support their vital work.
If like me you had not heard about Ronald McDonald House before, I hope my efforts to run this marathon will increase the awareness of the great work they do.
I am grateful for any contribution you can make to support such a worthy cause, it will certainly give me an added boost to get through the 26miles knowing you are behind this wonderful charity.

Many thanks
