Story
The Red Run is a timed 10K run around Victoria Park and takes place to support vital HIV services in London. Government funding for HIV services shrinks every year, but HIV is still spreading at the rate of 10 new diagnoses per day in London. Stigma and prejudice towards LGBT communities is still happening - homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are very real.
I've been volunteering for GMFA for nearly 5 years, and recently became Chair of the Board of Directors. We're a very small charity making a massive difference to so many people people. But we do it with limited financial support as most statutory funding for the kind of work we do has been cut by government.
GMFA relies heavily on the generosity of the community it serves in order to continue its work to improve knowledge of safer sex, increase HIV awareness and encourage people to test. We fight HIV stigma and galvanise the community to support those living with HIV. We provide people with information to help them make the right choices to live their healthiest lives, physically, sexually and emotionally. Good sexual health is not just about condoms. It's about confidence, self-esteem and knowledge.
