Story
On the afternoon of Wednesday 28th September 2022, Alan was out mowing the grass verges of his neighbours' houses (as he said he did a better job than the council!) like he usually did once a fortnight in season.
He was suddenly taken unwell and required immediate emergency support. This came in the form of local Paramedics and the crew from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance - the team of highly skilled, pre-hospital emergency medicine doctors and specialist paramedics who are able to bring the hospital to the patient at the scene of an incident when they need critical care.
Thanks to the quick thinking of passers by, and the skilled intervention of the medical team, Alan was resuscitated and taken to the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. He was treated first in A&E and then Critical Care where, with his family around him, he passed peacefully away on the evening of Thursday 29th September 2022.
Without the specialist help provided by the amazing crews, people who need critical emergency care outside of a hospital setting, would not be able to access the most advanced life-saving care they need.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who helped Alan in his time of need. Alan was a big part of many communities and was always ready with a smile, kind words (and often a pint!).
To honour his memory, we are supporting the amazing work this charity does to enable more people to benefit from their life-saving interventions when they most need it.
