We chose this charity as it reflects Alan’s love of his dogs and his Involvement with many diverse charitable events.

His fund raising talents were many; whether arranging charitable occasions, coercing people to sponsor an event, to supplying numerous raffle prizes. He offered advice, sourced information, attended and compered evenings to help other fundraisers.

Alan did not like dressing up however as well as Father Christmas and the odd hat and waistcoat we also managed to dress him up as Noddy, a pumpkin and a reindeer beer bottle all in a good cause.

His race nights were legendary using not only films, but mice and ferrets (no animals were harmed at these events). His inherited betting skills to work out the odds all in his head provided a good income.

Alan enjoyed his sport and used this as a springboard, as well as various beer and skittles evenings, a snooker competition. His celebrated black tie Boxing dinners provided not only funds but also a platform for future boxers to perform. His performance at wheelchair basketball (it is lethal) was not good but this did not stop him running a wheelchair basketball
competition not only to highlight and raise awareness as a competitive sport when it was in its infancy but also to raise funds specifically for a sports wheelchair.

His love of live music and cabaret delivered numerous different evenings and audiences to keep his fundraising activities fresh. Only last year he helped develop a successful Beer & Cider Festival for Moseley & Kings Heath Lion funds.

He always delegated selling raffle tickets, would not have sat in a bath of baked beans or have his head shaved (he liked to keep what little he had) he enjoyed using his skills to help others.

He always liked an element of fun and giving the punters good value for money to make a successful event so that they would return for more.

In anticipation let’s make this his ‘simply marvellous’ final fundraising a success.
