This year I am becoming a Bat Mitzvah and I am working on a Tikkun Olam project. Tikkun Olam means "repairing the world" and encompasses a wide range of "mitzvot" or good deeds and Jewish values. This includes participating in service projects, such as fundraising for a charity, or raising awareness for an important cause.
In 2018 someone very close to me was diagnosed with Benign Rolandic epilepsy, a form of childhood epilepsy. And although the doctors are hopeful that she will grow out of it one day, there is not yet a cure for epilepsy. This is where CURE comes in.
CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy, is the leading non-governmental funder of epilepsy research and is dedicated solely to finding a cure for epilepsy. Since its inception in 1998, CURE has raised more than $70 million to fund epilepsy research and other initiatives that will lead the way to cures for epilepsy. CURE and I have teamed up in order to further CURE's mission: find a cure for epilepsy by promoting and funding patient-focused research.
THE NEED FOR MORE RESEARCH IS CLEAR:
- One in twenty-six Americans will develop epilepsy in their lifetime.
- An estimated 3.4 million Americans and 65 million people worldwide currently live with epilepsy.
- Each year at least 150,000 people are diagnosed with epilepsy.
- According to recent estimates, in up to 50% of patients diagnosed with epilepsy, the cause is unknown.
- Epilepsy affects more people than autism spectrum disorder, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and Parkinson’s combined – yet receives fewer federal dollars per patient than each of these.
Help me become a CURE Champion by donating to this worthy cause, one that is near and dear to my heart. Thank you in advance for your generosity. I am very grateful for your support.
Love, Alana
