Event: Hartley Wintney to Paris Bike Ride 2010, on 2 September 2010

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 2nd. September I will be undertaking a cycle ride to to raise money for an important new development to support the local community in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire - as well as volunteer work that is already saving and improving lives in Uganda, Burma and Mongolia.

I will be cycling, along with other fund raisers, from Hartley Wintney, northern Hampshire, to – almost 200 miles of cycling in 4 days!  http://www.hw2parisbikeride.co.uk

March 2010:  As those who know me appreciate, I’m no cyclist, but I’m up for the challenge.  Truth is my wife volunteered me.  Thanks !  So, I’ve dusted off my bike, (the spiders in the garage seem to have had more wear out of the bike than me over the past 30 years).  Next, the task of getting fit enough to survive more than the first 10 miles without the aid of St Johns Ambulance.

August 2010: I'm now 5 months on in my training.  I've got a better road bike and have done a handful of 60 mile rides (in one go).  For the keener cyclists amongst you, I've got my Cadence rate (peddle revolutions) up to an average of 85 / minute - and can sustain that for 4.5 hrs at a stretch.  So I feel I may just survive.

The itinerary for Sept is:

Day 1 – Hartley Wintney (north Hampshire) to (Thursday 2nd September 2010) - 45.5 miles.    Then an overnight ferry.

Day 2 – Ouistreham to Bernay (Friday 3rd September) - 54 miles

Day 3 – Bernay to (Saturday 4th September) - 85.7 miles - yes that’s 85+ miles!   I envisage quite a lot of chafing, blisters and difficulty sitting down afterwards.

Day 4 – to Paris - Arc de Triomphe (Sunday 5th Sept) - 13.2 miles

I will be post more details and pictures throughout training as well of the event itself.

We aim to raise £100k towards the cost of the building programme – at least £500 each.

I need your encouragement to motivate me, so please give what you can.  If I don’t hit the target, I may have to cycle back too!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.  I am hoping to reach and surpass my initial target of £500 over the coming weeks!  All donations go to the St. Johns Church charity appeal.
