Story

Ron Hogg CBE was the Police, Crime and Victims' Commissioner for County Durham and Darlington, and Alan's boss for 4 years. He was a selfless, committed, brave public servant, who gave his time on this earth to helping others.

Tragically, Ron was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in August of 2019. Its progression was rapid and shocking, and Ron left us in December, just four months later.

Ron was open about his suffering, appearing on television and using his final months to campaign for a change in the law on assisted dying. A campaign that has been taken up by his colleagues in his memory, with the aim of preventing others from having to endure similar suffering, and enabling them to end their lives on their own terms.

Ron - and his wonderful wife Maureen - were incredible to us. He was the best boss anyone could wish for, but more than that, he became a mentor to Alan and a friend to both of us.

That's why we are doing a year of fundraising in his memory, for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, starting with Alan's 40th birthday. There will be further sponsored events during the year.

The MNDA provide support for people suffering with MND, and their families, and also raise funding for research to help tackle this fatal disease.

We know everyone is stretched, and there are so many worthy causes for any spare pennies that you have. But if you are able to support this cause, please do so.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
