Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As you know, we are great supporters of the work of the
NSPCC, particularly the work they do to help protect and keep children safe .
The last year has been difficult and as we have all struggled with different aspects of this pandemic, it is children who have undoubtedly borne the hidden cost of the crisis. Sadly,
we know that social distancing restrictions and lockdowns have increased the risk of child abuse and neglect.
Young people have told Childline how isolation or tensions
at home have put them at risk. Many felt trapped in abusive households, without the escape of school, friends or extended family. Between April 2020 and January 2021 Childline have been able to hold over 170,000 counselling sessions. The NSPCC has been here for children during what has been for many, the toughest year of their lives.
Maggie & I have chosen to mark our Golden Wedding
anniversary on 5th June by gifting a day’s running costs for
Childline across the UK, through the ‘One Unforgettable Day’ gift option.
Maggie, Hywel and I have enjoyed knowing that when we have chosen to gift ‘One Unforgettable Days’ to mark special occasions in our lives, we are also helping hundreds of children when they have nowhere else to turn to. It really makes a special day for us, unforgettable for many children.
Dame Esther Rantzen created the Childline service nearly 35
years ago and says “We still receive a million contacts a year from desperate children and young people who have nowhere else to turn. Childline literally saves lives."
A child contacts Childline every 25 seconds and it costs
just £4 for a trained counsellor to answer a child’s call.
Thank you for your gift to the NSPCC to celebrate our Golden
Wedding Anniversary and for helping Childline be that crucial lifeline children and young people can turn to when they need help.
Best wishes
