Story
Well it is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A massive thank you to all of you who have supported me over the past few months with your encouragement, jokes, witty comments and importantly donations etc etc. And I'll be popping round soon to let you see for yourselves just how much pain I'm in, and to collect the cheque of course!
The good news is that I managed to get round, but I did 'blow up' and at 20 miles I thought that I had broken my back and my legs stopped working !!!!! I eventually finished in a time of 4:56:30 about 20 mins behind where I wanted to be, still there's always next year! For all of you who have sponsored me on behalf of the Stroke Association my heartfelt thanks go out to you. The Stroke association really does do fantastic work for research into Stroke and campaigning to raise awareness around this terrible illness and condition. They also do fantastic work helping and supporting the victims, family and friends of those affected. No one really knows that they may suffer a stroke and it could literally be anyone, at any time. I was amazed to find out that someone somewhere in the country is having a Stroke every 5 minutes, that’s around 150,000 per year, and that over 1000 people under the age of 30 have a stroke!(That’s enough innuendo for now) If you want to know more have a look at their web site, www.stroke.org.uk As the more observant of you may have noticed the picture above might indicate that I have actually done a bit up to now, and you would be right, I’ve run the Nottingham and Birmingham Half Marathons as well as getting around the London marathon and managed to live, but only just……. There’s also a video that shows many older people overtaking me at the end of the Nottingham, click the link and laugh at my pain! All of my times for London are on the marathon web site (www.virginlondonmarathon.com) just enter my surname and they will pop up for you It also looks like I'm going to sign up for the Dublin Marathon in October !!!!!!!!! (got to get under 4:40) Again thanks for your support and your help. Please feel free to let anyone and everyone know about the page, every little counts as they say. Talk soon. All the best Alan.
