London Marathon 2020 - raising money for RJAH Charity.

Story

Just over 18 months ago I was told by specialists I would never be able to run or compete in sport again. This was due to my right knee having irreparable damage sustained since first incurring a major injury aged 14. Following 6 operations in my teens& 20's, a lot of pain as arthritis crept in and no real progress, the next steps were to fully replace my knee. However there wasn't a surgeon in the UK prepared to take this operation on due to my age and the life expectancy of the procedure.

As a last resort I was offered an opportunity to speak with the professors over at RJAH in Oswestry. Being a specialist orthopaedic hospitals they offered me the chance to have a relatively new & pioneering treatment to implant fresh meniscus, harvest cells in a lab and essentially re implant them to grow new tissue naturally. There was an element of the unknown but things couldn't get much worse for me so I took a leap.

For 3 months of 2019 I couldn't walk and pain was unbearable at times. However 12 months down the line and having finally been discharged from hospital, I have been given the all clear to run. RJAH were the end of the road for me and took on what was a very difficult case to fix. When I began my long road to recovery I applied for the London marathon as a target to drive for to get back to being fit and healthy. Against the odds I managed to make the cut and get a place.

Please join me in raising money to support this wonderful hospital which supports specialist orthopaedic treatment for all age demographics and offers fantastic treatment from world class surgeons. There isn't a case they wont take on to try to improve peoples quality of life and I personally owe them a lot of thanks.

Donations and fundraising will be used for the benefit of the patients and staff at the hospital.Donations help the hospital to develop new treatments, provide "state of the art" equipment and facilities and to provide extra benefit for our patients. Thanks once again, your donation is much appreciated.
