Story
As a pilot I normally stay inside the plane. However on July 5th that will be me standing on the wing of the Stearman biplane whilst it performs aerobatic manoeuvres.
I have supported flying for the disabled charities for many years. This is an opportunity to raise money for Aerobility, which offers disabled individuals, without exception, the opportunity to fly an aeroplane. For some, that amazing first flight is enough to change their outlook on disability forever: "If I can fly an aeroplane, what else can I do"?
Others realise that the fantasy of flight is truly in their grasp and can achieve their Private Pilot's Licence. Aerobility enables disabled people to fly for a fraction of the commercial rate, with a fleet of 4 modified aircraft, and operates out of Blackbushe and Tatenhill Airport. 1000 new individuals participate with Aerobility a year.
I gained my Private Pilot's licence in 1983 and have flown over 1300 hours since that day. I love the freedom and exhilaration of flight, on clear day you can see forever, which puts life into perspective.
Your support will help other disabled individuals to experience the magic and freedom of flight. I must be nuts, I've always wondered why people would want to be outside a perfectly serviceable aeroplane when there are seats available inside!
Let me know if you want to come and watch, otherwise I'll post a video after landing (if I survive, says my wife!)
