Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hello, I am Jane Clarke, I am a Nurse at the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre. I have worked at the unit for roughly 13 years.
I started running in 2014 and each year I've done more and more races increasing the distances. I've run several half marathons now plus 2 marathons, should have been 3 but last years got cancelled 3 weeks before the event.
I never dreamed I could run a marathon but a friend of mine who helped me in the early days said if you never enter an event you will never achieve that goal. She was so right. If you train for something
you want you can achieve it. Running and cycling give's me time alone to relax, think and have time out from a busy life with work and home commitments. Sometimes I can come home and maybe feeling quite stressed but after going for a run I feel so much better. It's nice too (when able) to meet up with my running buddy we run and chatter away putting the world to rights and then go and enjoy a nice coffee.
This year I will be completing my wish list, I plan to do the following three events to raise money for the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre, Covid allowing:
On the 23rd May 2021 - I will be completing the Peterborough Marathon.
On the 6th June 2021 - I will be biking 100 miles in the Tour of Cambridgeshire.
On the 3rd October 2021 - I will be completing the London Marathon.
The Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre; an Arthur Rank Hospice Charity service based in Wisbech, is a specialist day treatment centre supporting people living with a life-limiting illness. Services are provided free of charge to patients and their families in North Cambridgeshire and the Fens.
We provide outstanding care to more than 400 patients a year, helping them to make every moment count. The multi-disciplinary palliative care team led by a Matron, provides a range of services for people living with advanced serious illness or life-limiting conditions.
Services include Day Therapy; treatment and clinical days (including blood transfusions, oncology and symptom management) complementary and diversional therapies; and bereavement and support services.
The Centre additionally supports patients and their families in their own homes through a Hospice at Home service and a community
specialist palliative care service which ensures integrated care. The team also provides clinical advice and support to palliative patients on the adjacent Trafford Ward.
The Treatment Centre is funded only partly by commissioned
income. We are extremely grateful to our local community for the dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting the Charity to meet the remaining fundraising target each year.
I have many reasons for working, supporting and fundraising for the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre:
It is a privilege to work for a service that provides outstanding care to patients and their families at such an important time in their lives. To be able to support and make a difference. I work in the Day Therapy area where we have a small, close, supportive team which enables us to support each other as well as our patients, this helps us to give the best possible service to our patients.
Covid-19 has made things more difficult for everyone this year and has had a big impact on fundraising for our charity. I was already planned to do the Peterborough marathon this year as it was deferred from last year due to covid, I mentioned I would like to do this to raise money for the Unit. I then entered the 100 mile bike ride and decided to use this to help with fund raising too. My dream has been to run the London Marathon for several years and the opportunity has arisen to take part in this in October for the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre. To say I am a little excited is an understatement, so rather than 1 event this year I have decided to set myself a yearly challenge to fundraise for such a wonderful, local charity with 2 marathons, 2 half marathons (Edinburgh and Sandringham) and a 100 mile bike ride. The last event will be the most exciting and important one... the London Marathon :).
