Story
Really too hot to run but I crossed the line in 49 minutes and 19 seconds. Phew!
Having reached the ripe old age of 50, I have set myself the target of ‘running my age for 10K’ or running 10km in 50 minutes. Not quite a marathon, but achieving the time will certainly be a challenge. I have entered for the BUPA London 10K, in Central London, on 27 May. The race was won last year by Mo Farah, but I doubt he will be too concerned about the extra competition. I am also trying to raise some money for the Olivia Hodson Cancer Fund.
As many of you know, in 1997 Christiane and I founded the Olivia Hodson Cancer Fund in memory of our daughter Olivia, who was two and a half years old when she died in April 1996 from a malignant germ cell tumour. The OHCF was set up to support projects that would help other sick children and their families in the future.
Over the last 15 years, thanks to the generous support of many friends and family, the fund has supported a wide range projects and staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the neighbouring Institute of Child Health. These have included research projects, parental support programmes, palliative care and pain relief. The work funded has often been in areas that have been unable to access larger grant-giving organisations. More details are available on www.ohcf.org.
Christiane and I very much appreciate all of the support we've received for the OHCF in the past and will continue to work hard to ensure that all of the funds raised are used to help improve the treatment and cures for children with cancer.
If you would like to sponsor my run, please either send a cheque made payable to - 'GOSHCC - Olivia Hodson Cancer Fund' or donate online through JustGiving.com.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Alan Hodson
