Story
For those of you who are unaware, this October marks a year since my brother, Ben, was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Fortunately his tumour was operable, unlike many others. The incredible surgeons at King’s Collage Hospital managed to completely remove the tumour, which was described as the size of a cricket ball! However, the tumour was malignant and Ben was later diagnosed with grade 4 cancer. It required 6.5 weeks of radio therapy. Given Ben’s youth and strong physique, the dosage of Radio therapy was extremely intense to give the highest possibility of it not returning. In the following months Ben required further surgery for a drain into his body to help regulate the spinal fluid running from his brain to his stomach.
A year on from this and my brother has recovered in the way we all knew he would! There was a brief period where I may have been able to beat him in an arm wrestle-now that window has certainly gone for good!
The experience has made us eternally grateful to the NHS-they saved Ben’s life. I can safely say I will never complain about paying tax … at least not for a couple of years!!
As my sister and father are also taking part in the half marathon they will be raising money for the two instrumental hospitals; The Royal Marsden Hospital and the King’s Collage Hospital.
I have chosen Macmillan cancer support. This experience highlighted how significant those are who support someone seriously ill. Anyone would need loved ones at close hand. Support is very much needed to help somebody recover; not only in an emotional sense but also financially. I would like to help those suffering from cancer without this. Macmillan provides “practical, medical and financial support” to patients who need it- it’s a great cause!
I assure you all, I will be training for this hard and hope to raise as much money as I can!
Also my sister thinks she might be able to beat me which is frankly ridiculous and an added incentive to train hard so I can teach her a lesson!!!
So please sponsor me, how ever small or large as it all helps!
Thanks
