Story
During September 2006, whilst serving as a member of The 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment my younger brother Stuart was involved in a traumatic incident in Afghanistan, which resulted in him losing his left leg and sustaining life threatening injuries. The incident was subsequently adapted into a critically acclaimed award winning movie (Kajaki). With the support of family and friends, and in particular the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association (Blesma), Stuart has made a fantastic recovery. Blesma has helped Stuart, and thousands of others, not to be defined by their injuries and assisted in rebuilding their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
Stuart completed the London Marathon in 2016 to raise money for Blesma and on Sunday 21st April undertook the challenge once more to raise further much needed funds for this worthy charity and in the added. To help him along the way, I joined Stuart as his Support Walker for the 26.2 miles. To add to the challenge, I underwent knee surgery in April 2023 to remove a Meniscus tear. We completed the Marathon in 8 hours 16 minutes.
