My beloved late wife, Nasifa Hannan (Rinee), adored Bangladesh, cherished children and lived for charity. With these loves in mind, in honour of her memory and indeed in sadaqah jariyah, it was thus fitting that I snap up a last minute opportunity to join the inestimable Team MC for their Tour de Bangladesh next month. This especial tour is all to raise awareness and much needed funds for desperate street children in Bangladesh (all donations are straight to the charity; all expenses are covered by us cyclists). Over 12 days, we shall visit rescued street children's shelters and schools, plus shadow street outreach workers, inbetween cycling over 400 miles (650 km) from Mongla to Sylhet, from one side of the country to the other.
Street children in Bangladesh struggle to survive in extreme poverty, having little or no access to housing, healthcare, education and protection. Organised crime is often their sad reality, having been led into a life of petty theft, drug-taking and sexual exploitation; they are frequently subject to beatings, arrest and imprisonment.
Via Muslim Charity's 'Children of the World' programme, the aim is for every child to be able to enjoy being just that, a child. We want to protect those most vulnerable and give them a chance to thrive in a safe environment. With your help, we can provide shelter, healthcare, schooling and a loving home, plus equip rescued children with the skills and knowledge to better not only their lives but their communities too.
In life, Rinee was the epitome of kindness, selflessness and charity. Her light and legacy inspire and guide me in this charitable effort, and I am thus everso gratfeul for any kind donations.
