Story
Our take on the take 250 challange is to make 250,000 steps over the month of February in order to help raise vitial funds for RNIB
Ciara and myself have decided to fundraise for RNIB on behalf of our Rhaya an Ellie who on 13th February 2020 were registered as partially sighted.
Here is a bit of their story below.
After an unsuccessful sight test at the opticians for Rhaya and Ellie at there were referred to Altnagelvin optical specialists for a sight test.
The consultant discovered after a number of tests that Rhaya and Ellie both have Probable Cone Dystrophy, An inherited genetic eye condition that affects your central vision.
Due to COVID 19 and the pandemic their follow up appointments have been unable to happen so we are still waiting on the full diagnosis and treatment plan or plan of action.
In the medical world to date there is no treatment plan that will give them back the vision that they have lost but there a few alternatives that could help their visual impairment but the doctors we have been speaking with need a full diagnosis first.
Rhaya an Ellie have been so resilient, gracious and strong since we got the news on their condition in 2019. Nothing bothers them and it is clear to see that these two ladies are so determined that no diagnosis will ever hold them back.
The support that the girls have been given to date from the RNIB has been outstanding. We want to make sure that other people in their position receive the same level of service.
Every day 250 people are told the life-changing news that theyre losing their sight. We want to ensure no one faces this diagnosis alone, and that people with sight loss can live independently in a world with no barriers in the way of the life they want to lead. Our Sight Loss Advisors can provide emotional and practical support to someone who is coming to terms with their sight loss. Your fundraising could help us ensure no call to the RNIB Helpline goes unanswered, and that no one feels alone during this difficult time.
