Story
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
In February 2015 I (Aisling) was Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) which is a rare form of blood cancer that effects the immune system and bone marrow. I was told the Leukaemia was hitting my body fast and if not treated straight away would be fatal.
After 4 intense rounds of Chemo it was decided my best chance for long term survival was to have an Ablative Stem Cell Transplant. Remarkably my eldest brother was a 10/10 match and in July 2015 I received his stem cells. Thankfully the transplant was successful. My recovery was long and complicated by many setbacks but I got through them all.
Kirsty was one of my rocks through it all and was with me every step of the way. She even made me a HAPPY BOX filled with quotes, pictures and memories, of anything and everything that she thought would make me smile. There was something for me to open each day I
was in hospital. I will always remember the box, even now it makes me smile thinking of some of the mementoes. It was such an amazing and thoughtful idea and certainly made me smile 😊.
Being active and keeping fit was always something we shared and often spoke about running the London Marathon before I got sick.
One day when I was feeling especially low Kirsty visited me in hospital and it was that day, we made a pact that in 2020, if I was still in remission and doing well, we would apply and run it together – so here we are!
Every day, Anthony Nolan match incredible individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people with blood cancer and blood disorders who desperately need lifesaving transplants.
The charity helps three people each day find that lifesaving match. If you would like to find out more about Anthony Nolan, and how you can get involved, please visit www.anthonynolan.org for more information. Thank you again, without you there is no cure.
Anthony Nolan is only able to do this through fundraising efforts which go towards recruiting more donors to the register, tissue typing, searching for matches, research, fundraising and raising awareness and education about blood cancer.
