Hello, Marhaba and Salaam,

The conflict in Syria which began over 7 years ago has seen millions of men, women and children displaced, seeking refuge in nearby countries such as Lebanon.

There are over 1 million Syrian refugees living in camps in Lebanon having fled for their lives. Many of these are families but there are also many lone women widows and orphans. Most have faced not only the loss of their homes but loss of family members. Many have suffered injuries from being caught up as innocent victims of the armed conflict.

We are both lawyers working in the field of international protection and human rights. Many of the people we help and represent are refugees having fled war or persecution, arriving in Europe and the UK seeking protection. Having heard their stories and of their difficult journeys to safety, we want to raise money to go some way to helping Syrians who have had to flee their homes and seek safety in neighbouring countries.

InshaAllah, we will be travelling to Lebanon with Muslim Charity on 6 February 2019 to provide aid and support in the Aarsal refugee camp near the Syrian border and meet people affected by the conflict, to hear their stories and convey these further. The camp was recently hit by some savage storms during the bitterly cold winter which caused, flooding, damage to tents, injuries and some fatalities.

We are paying for the costs of our trip ourselves and are aiming to raise a minimum of £2,000 (plus GiftAid) before we leave.

We will provide updates during our visit and once we return, to relay the stories of these strong and brave people who have taken difficult journeys to protect themselves and their loved ones.
