Story
Hi, My name is Aimee.
For the past 10 years or so I have entered the ballet for the London Marathon. Finally been successful this year after securing a charity place. I will be running the TCS London Marathon 2024 for JDRF. Aiming to raise as much money as possible for JDRF.
JDRF are the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation whose vision is for a world without types 1 diabetes.
JDRF are committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes. JDRF research has led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment and is laying the foundations for a cure. The Charity supports everyone living with type 1 diabetes, by working with policy makers to increase availability of treatments and by providing information and resources to help people manage their condition.
As most of you know back in March 22 I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I became very ill and ended up in hospital. The autoimmune disease impacts my life daily and their are a number of things I have to do in order to manage the condition. The four main symptoms are;
Tiredness, Thirst, Weight loss and Toilet. (Which i had all of).
If you have type 1 diabetes, your pancreas doesn’t make insulin or makes very little insulin. Insulin helps blood sugar enter the cells in your body for use as energy. Without insulin, blood sugar can’t get into cells and builds up in the bloodstream. High blood sugar is damaging to the body and causes many of the symptoms and complications of diabetes.
Like many others living with type 1 diabetes we rely on research and charity's to find a cure, save lives and make life easier. Without these we wouldn't have access to new technology that allows us to manage the condition much easily. I currently use Dexcom, which is a continuous glucose monitor that helps me manage my glucose levels.
Any donations, or shares of my story will be greatly appreciated.
Lets make people more aware of Type 1 Diabetes and raise as much money for JDRF so that research can be continously done in order to find a cure.
