Story
In June I will volunteer for 3 months on a development programme in Nepal as part of the International Citizen Service (ICS, read more here: http://www.volunteerics.org/about-ics). I will be working on projects that will both deliver better access to water, sanitation and hygiene and ones that focus on empowering local girls and women. On my return to the UK in September, I will then undertake a project to benefit those in need here in the UK too.
ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.
I intend to raise at least £800 for Raleigh International who are one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work. You can check out their amazing work here https://raleighinternational.org/
Your donation will not cover the cost of my trip to Nepal but will be used to enable ICS to continue their programme so that a further 10,000 young people from the UK can volunteer on projects in the developing world and fight poverty.
In an attempt to convince you to contribute, I invite you to sponsor me to do a task of your choosing (please be kind). You can keep track of how I get on here on my Justgiving page, through Twitter @Aimee_Pro or on Facebook. Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries!
To keep up to date with the various things I'm already planning to do to encourage you to part with your cash, check back here. This is one I'm currently planning:
- 'Live below the line' - eat & drink for 5 days on only £5. No tea, chocolate, beautiful lunches at work...none. Just the basic ingredients I can buy & make things with, for a fiver. Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Anyone who knows me, knows I really can't cook. I may be very grumpy on this week but it's a sad reality that I'd still be relatively well off compared to many in the developing world.
- I'm looking forward to getting your suggestions
Thanks for your support!
