Story
In 6 weeks and 2 days I am going to be running the London Marathon….I found out yesterday! I had applied to run for Bowel Cancer UK in February after finding out my Nanny had bowel cancer but the places were all full. (Phew).
Fast forward to now, my Nanny is in palliative care at home, she is very very poorly with all the possible cancers you can have and has been in a bed in her lounge for nearly 8 weeks, unable to do very much at all. Before this she has never been ill. To see her like this is absolutely heart breaking, the fittest, healthiest most able lady unable to eat, drink or get out of a bed. My Dad and my Auntie changed their whole lives to be there everyday looking after their Mum, nobody should ever have to do that.
Then last night, 18/8/22, the email came….Charlie from Bowel Cancer UK said that lots of people had dropped out and asked if I would like a place on their team. I couldn‘t say no. It was a sign. If my Nanny can lie in a bed, so poorly for nearly 8 weeks I can do some running….then I realised how long I had to train. 6 weeks. I haven‘t ever completed couch to 5k. I struggle with 10 minutes on a cross trainer. I got shin splints from standing on the RSC stage.
It is definitely the most bonkers idea I have ever had, but I’m going to do it, for my Nanny and for everyone else who has suffered from this cruel cruel disease.
PLEASE sponsor me, I beg you. I know times are hard, I really know that but any donation big or small will be so appreciated. I am also accepting any running tips and hints and running buddies too!
