Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page :-)
I have decided to set myself the challenge of taking part in several half marathons, 10k events and cycle challenges throughout the year! Running has never been a strong point of mine so taking part in so many events over one year will prove to be a personal challenge as well as aiming to raise as much money as possible for all the fantastic work Combat Stress provide.
My challenge list is as follows:
Liverpool Half Marathon- Sunday 23 March
Chester Half Marathon- Sunday 18 May
Mersey Tunnel 10k- Sunday 8th June
Great Manchester Cycle- Sunday 29 June
The Wales Half Marathon- Sunday 13 July
English Half Marathon (Warrington) Sunday 21st September
Cardiff Half Marathon- Sunday 5 October
Bangor 10k- Sunday 18th October
Conwy Half Marathon Sunday 23rd November
I have well and truly got the running bug, so this list is constantly increasing!
I have chosen to raise money for Combat Stress due to the amazing difference they make to the lives of British Armed Forces veterans through providing effective treatment and support for mental health problems. Due to personal circumstances this is an issue which is particularly close to my heart, so I hope to raise as much money as possible.
A small but significant number of Veterans leave the Armed Forces with psychological wounds. These can lead to depression, phobias, anxiety, relationship problems and, in some cases, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Everything Combat Stress provides is free of charge to the Veteran. Therefore, their work is made possible through statutory, non- statutory and voluntary fundraising. So your support throughout this challenge is invaluable!
Donations can help to contribute towards:
A session with a Mental Health Practitioner, as part of a Community and Outreach Programme (£37)
An Art Therapy session for five Veterans struggling to articulate their trauma (£55)
A consultation with a Psychiatrist, a crucial first step in coming to terms with the harrowing memories of combat (£124)
Thank you for having a read through this page and for all the support I've had already from my lovely friends and family! :) xxx
