Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit out JustGiving page.

We have decided (with no previous running experience, and running a little bit like Phoebe from Friends) to run Middlesbrough 10K in memory of Our (Up North!) Dad, John Bell, in support of Teesside hospice.

Aimee

I always said to my Dad that one day I would run The Great North Run and Boro 10K run seems like a good place to start this year. I even bought some pink shorts a decade a go to wear, that I still have. So I think its time I kept my word.

For those who were lucky enough to know my Dad, they will know he was the kindest, funniest and warm and welcoming man. Dad was smiling and telling jokes right till the end.  John was, is and always will be an amazing husband, father and grandfather. John is dearly missed everyday.

John passed away in March 2021 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at home.

I have found taking the time to exercise and be out in nature has really helped me make peace with his passing. Dad loved being outdoors and helping keep The Bluebell Beck in tip-top shape!

Izzy

John was my supervisor at ConocoPhillips when I was a university student in 2006.  He was one of the best mentors I have ever had. Not just for work, but for life too! He always had a wise word to say, and was always there if you needed advice. I loved listening to all his stories, and everyone loved working with him. John  was one of the most brightest, intelligent and humblest people I have ever met.

When I said to my 3 year old daughter that I had started running she said 'to get cake?' I thought of John when she said this, as I knew he would have laughed a lot!

I used to call John 'my Dad up North' because he was very much like a Dad to me.  He was such a positive person, and I know that he will be cheering us on!

We are raising funds in his memory and for Teesside Hospice, in his memory as we know it would be a Charity he would have wanted us to fundraise for.

Aimee  has read many stories of the amazing work Teesside Hospice do for local families, as well as talking to those who work there or have had loved ones in palliative care. The work staff and carers do for those in Teesside is amazing,  it inspires us to want to support them and do more.

Teesside Hospice help support local families across Teesside who have been affected by terminal illness.

Teesside Hospice help them to make the most of every day, ensuring they receive the best possible care by creating experiences and memories that last a lifetime.

Thank you for your support.
